Bates Field Aero Club

Come fly with us!

Who Are We?
We are the most afordable way in Mobile to stretch your wings as a general aviation pilot! Membership is just $20 per month with a $250 initiation fee. Hourly rates vary based on fuel prices but are usually around $110/hour.
About our airplanes:
We currently own two Cessna 172P Skyhawks. They are based at Mobile Downtown Airport (KBFM) so they are convenient for our members on the eastern shore as well as Mobile. Both have analog instruments and Garmin G430 avionics. One is also equipped with autopilot for easier cross-country flight.
Is this a rental agency?
No. When you join the Bates Field Aero Club, you become a part owner of all club aircraft. This means that the club's insurance covers you while flying the club planes.
Who may join?
Anyone may apply for membership in the club. At the end of the regular business of the board meeting, you will introduce yourself to the board and members in attendance. The board will then vote whether to approve your application. If you're approved, you're a member right away.
Do I need to have a pilot's license to join?
Absolutely not! Some of our most active members are student pilots. The club maintains a list of approved instructors you can hire to teach you how to fly. Instructors are not employees of the club, and each instructor has their own rates and will bill you independently of your aircraft fees.
How Do I Join?
First you should download, print, and fill out our application form. Then bring it with you to one of our regular board meetings, which are held monthly on the third Thursday at 7:30pm in the upstairs meeting room of the Signature Flight Support FBO at Mobile Regional Airport. Be sure to bring your initiation fee and first month's dues.
